SEE THE LATEST EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW

Canada is one of the world's most popular immigration destinations. Unfortunately, moving to Canada from Senegal is not as simple as packing your bags and boarding a flight. Canada requires numerous procedures for those wishing to immigrate, and even those who do everything right can be refused on health, financial or legal grounds. However, most people are able to find a way to immigrate to Canada from Senegal if they are determined to do so, even if not by the most traditional means. Follow our article on immigration to Canada for more details on the programs available.

Study permit or student visa

A study permit will not allow you to enter Canada permanently, but it will give you the opportunity to study and work in some of the world's top research centers and universities. Options are available if you study in Canada and obtain a PhD, or do years of study towards a PhD in Canada, but requirements can vary and often include an offer of employment after graduation and a commitment to stay for a specified period.

Express entry

The most traditional way to enter Canada from Senegal, Express Entry was instituted in 2015 and involves two steps. The first is to create an online profile. The second involves putting all your qualifications in your profile to earn a certain number of points, which will enable you to receive an invitation to apply. Those with a sufficiently high score will receive the invitation and may later be granted permanent residency.

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)

All provinces and territories, except Quebec, can nominate candidates for immigration under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Nominees must be willing to live and work in the nominating province or territory, and meet a certain level of skills, education and work experience.

Programs for the self-employed

There are avenues for self-employment in the sporting or cultural fields. If you are self-employed in these fields, have experience and are able to share it with Canada, your application for self-employment may be approved, although the procedure can be strict.

Spousal sponsorship

If you are married to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you can be sponsored by your spouse from Senegal to live in Canada as a permanent resident. As a permanent resident, you'll be able to work, go to school and enjoy government benefits such as health care. This route is open to spouses, common-law partners and conjugal partners only.
