What is an agent?
An agent is a person or company who prospects, prepares and directs clients interested in an immigration procedure to Canada to the Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant.
Here's what the website of Canada's regulatory body for immigration consultants, the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC), has to say:
- By definition, an agent is a person or company operating outside Canada.
- All services provided by individuals or companies in Canada must be carried out by contract personnel, as they are not considered agents.
- Licensees (immigration consultants who are members in good standing of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants) must pay a registration fee of 500 $ for each new agent, as well as an annual fee of 250 $ to maintain each agent's registration.
Who is considered an agent of our firm?
An agent of our firm is an individual or company that meets the following three conditions:
- Has entered into and signed an agent agreement with the Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) in writing;
- Has been registered as an Agent by the Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) on the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) Portal with payment of the required fees;
- In view of his registration as an Agent accepted by the Collège des Consultants en Immigration et en Citoyenneté (CICC).
What's the difference between a RCIC and an Agent?
A RCIC, or Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, is a licensed immigration professional who is a member in good standing of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC). This federal organization acts as the regulatory authority in Canada, overseeing immigration professionals. The role of a RCIC is to evaluate, prepare and submit immigration and citizenship applications, and to represent candidates in their application to immigrate to Canada.
An agent, on the other hand, is a person or company responsible for recruiting customers and referring them to RCIC. The agent receives a commission for each consultation or service contract signed between the customer and RCIC.
